The York is a rebrand of the locally renowned Midtown on York restaurant that delighted the locals of Sale and its high rolling guests for many decades since the 1960's.

The York had many operators, and many many more menu items over the years, all within the same footprint, and also the same decor (red carpet and walls)... 

 

New and current owners, brothers Tom and Richard grew up in Sale a long time ago, but decided to take over The York at the tail end of COVID, and spent a lot of time deciding what to do with the dated but functional space in the heart of Sale.

 

They reached out to friend and consultant Tim McDonald (Fonda Mexican Co-Founder) and his head chef Mark Tagnipez (former head chef of Supernormal) and they remodelled the space for the Sale locals, and the many corporate travellers that visit Sale and its surrounds. 

 

Mel Nicholls was the designer for the refurbishment and did a remarkable job from her office in NZ breathing new life into the space. 

 

The York is now a rebranded, repurposed and exciting new offering in the heart of Sale. 

 

Local prodigy - Zaine Shiels has relished in his new 'office', being awarded sole responsibility for the high quality food standards and hand picked menu items curated by Tim and Mark mentioned above. 

 

The York is a place where you are proud to bring your friends and has something for everyone.
